Text of my application to join a group called "HighIQworld"

Dear posterity:

I paste here a copy of the little text i wrote at the application page for the said group. I don't know if they will accept me, but in any case i am confident that the benefits of having posted this also here will greatly outweigh the tiny cost of writing these few explanatory lines.

So, here's the thing:

Razor sharp psychoanalytical-type discipline for self bias-correcting

Way out of the box thinking.

Cognitive behavioral shamanic therapy to help unhappy high iq members of normal society transition into a different lifestyle they may understand to be better, but not dare to try...

[End of inserted text]

Please forgive the messy fonts and backgrounds, dear posterity, after all you're not that important to me.

Some thoughts that seem to be forbidden in certain supposedly rational circles.

Dear posterity:

I wrote a comment on the fb post for a blog entry on Qualiacomputing. It is written by one Andrés Gomez Emilsson. Maybe he's very famous now that you're reading this, but for now only so so.

So this man Andrés is one of the founders of the Stanford Transhumanist Association, and he claims to be an abolitionist. (A person in favor of absolutely eliminating suffering from reality, even through genetic modification of carnivores).

And he wrote this piece "Algorithmic Reduction of Psychedelic States"

https://qualiacomputing.com/2016/06/20/algorithmic-reduction-of-psychedelic-states/

And I personally think it suffers from lack of clarity, and possibli emotional entanglement.

Moreover, the said Mr. Gomez sometimes claims to believe in Open Individualism and sometimes in Empty Individualism. I don't feel like typing it up now but it should be more or less apparent that these viewpoints on personal identity are strongly at odds with book burning.

The point is, I made a couple of comments on the fb post about his blog entry, and they seem to have been deleted.

I copy them out of my activity log, and paste them here for you, dear posterity, that you might more easily make clear exactly what paths the mind wandered through in these troubled times.

The comment after the signoff refers to his term "Introspectoscope."

Without further ado, here's the said comments.

I will write more in depth about this, but briefly:

I am forced to believe you can't really tell between perception and consciousness.

This makes me wonder if maybe you equate thinking to calculating

(computational psychology would indeed sound like heaven on earth to any hypothetical subject suffering from that particular confusion.)

Also, archetypes and thought fields do not belong in the list of "acid head's pet theories.

What is the difference between you and what you seemingly despectively call an "acid head"? number of books read? how do you know there is not a few "acid heads" better informed than you? Maybe in the higher regions of the IQ spectrum it becomes clear just how Stanford killed your soul, and what it is. (unfalsifiable by you by definition)

I suspect the real difference as you perceive it between "an acid head's pet theory" and the more or less confused jumble of words in your mind is MONEY manifested as status, or status, backed by money. In this way you are serving the god Mammon, and not Love.

Maybe it's my own narcissism, but that paragraph does indeed feel like you went out of your way to score a point off me.

Thank you in advance for your equanimous reception of my thoughts and feelings. In jedi brotherhood and abolitionist love

Carlos

Oh and the roots "specto" and "scopein" are redundant, btw. You just maybe don't realize it because of a deficiency in latin and greek. I would advise you to study a little more of that.

Endoscope does it. all greek. But if you dont want people to confuse it with the thing for looking into the gut, lets call it a Noo-scope or a psycho-endo-scope.

On "Peaceful Qualia, The manhattan Project of Consciousness"

Dear Andrés:

These are my thoughts upon reading your "Peaceful Qualia, The Manhattan Project of Consciousness"

https://qualiacomputing.com/2016/03/29/peaceful-qualia-the-manhattan-project-of-consciousness/

"The purpose of this program was to find a phenomenological technology to address core causes for the failure of cooperation in human societies. "

"Phenomenological technology" is very unclear. Can you substitute if for its definition like in math?

"When the identification with any one of these programs as oneself is made, it begins to accumulate a gloss of ontological qualia."

If the "ontological qualia" depend on the identification are they not then, by definition, not really qualia? they would seem to be more akin to the "objects" constituted from qualia through the operation of the sensory apparatus-brain-mind...

"Evolution has recruited one of its orientable positive manifolds to represent what we call realism."

What? I really don't get this sentence...

Why do you use the word "manifold"? what definition can we substitute it for in every sentence where you use it?

"Rather than perceiving mathematical ideas as living presences, they see them as timeless and expressionless patterns."

Actually Steiner (and to an extent, Husserl) wants us to experience ideas as living realities, and says we can verify for ourselves that this way lies the next type of consciousness ("Anschaunde Urteilskraft", -power of judging-in-brholding- Goethe's term. Husserl's would be "Eidetic intuition" not quite the same. For an exploration of the nuance see the essay by Hicks that i sent you)

("Spiritual beings Dwell in The Ground of Propositions" by Scott E hicks. It doesn't seem to be available online right now, you can get it from me)

You seem to use  the word qualia as a singular. I have noticed that Wikipedia gives "quale" as the singular. This is just poor latin.

Qualia and Qualium, like Quanta and Quantum.

As a native spanish speaker this should be very clear to you. The words "cualidad" y "cantidad" must belong to the same grammatical category. They basically mean "which-ness" and "how-much-ness" The questions "cuánto" y "cuál" are inextricably related. almost like nonidentical twins.

"In its extreme form, realism can spark spiritual experiences, which are the result of saturated feelings of being in one’s experiential field. Being overflows one’s sense of time and space, and one experiences an ontologically solid absolute necessity"

If the experience of absolutely ontologically solid necessity is just a configuration of the mind, where is the Real then? The only way out left is that Mind is the only reality. Welcome back to Vedic India.

"One’s object of interest may feel unattainable, but one’s feeling of the existence of this problem is full of realism"

I think you meant "full of realiTY" you often seem to confuse things and the ideas thereof, for example you ofthen say "phenomenology" when you seem to mean "phenomenon".

Maybe it has to do with rythmic properties of the number six as intstantiated in six syllable words, which most of the time sound really authoritative and greek...

"And while we do have the ability to turn on our senses’ realism very strongly, what usually has the most realism is our sense of presence as narratives. Our sensory modalities are not the place in which this realism is expressed the most. In humans, there is a typical hyper-expression of the realism of their social logico-linguistic selves."

Let's comment on this one from Steiner's point of view:

1.-when we learn to "ignore the senses" we are in "the spiritual world"
2.-the logico-linguistic self corresponds to the rational soul, that corresponds to conceptual thinking, that started becoming mainstream in greece. Plato's dialogues are accounts of Socrates patiently trying to help people think conceptually. Our task in this next cultural epoch is the development of the "consciousness soul" which corresponds to the aforementioned "Anschauende Urteilskraft"

"turn on our senses' realism"

kind of reads as if each of your senses has a mind and a philosophical view. Maybe you mean something more like "grant/assign reality status to sensory input".

"Coincidentally, a vast proportion of human conflict can be tracked to excessive identification with one’s self as a collective, yet narrow, narrative. This is compounded with a strong, yet naïve, omnipresent phenomenology of realism associated to one’s own experiences"

The phrase "phenomenology of realism" is very vague. Maybe you just mean "appearance of reality". Don't you think this second phrase is more clear, even if less "cool"? If not , please elaborate on the difference of meaning.

I think you'd benefit greatly from learning from phenomenologists to use verbs as nouns without changing their ending. e.g. "el aparecer de lo que aparece".

"The technology also helped them forget about these experiences on a meta-cognitive level."

"Meta-cognitive level" sounds quite interesting. can you elaborate?

"One can finally conceive of a God’s-eye-view utility function for the entire universe. This experience is the maximum possible qualia synchrony level before memory stops working, and is often described as peak bliss in the human organism."

"a God’s-eye-view utility function for the entire universe"

This one phrase, on the contrary, is extremely clear and useful. I've been dancing around its meaning for years, and somehow just never composed it. Thanks!

"Typically, the realization would be forgotten." Not so. Around age eleven I would spontaneously drift into non-subject/object mode. When I "came back" I could vaguely tell that I was coming back from where my "self is not even assembled" (constituted, to use the language of Sartre) through witnessing the later stages of the "reboot" (remembering there is a planet with a country with a city with a school...where i have this name, btw.)

"The deathless state is one memory away." Cheers to that!!

"Propositional qualia is the experiential modality that..." First, how is a non-quotation-marked plural followed by "is"? Furthermore: How is a qualium a modality? Or maybe you mean the set of all possible "propositional qualia" as you call them? The syntax and the grammar are really vague here. At least to my humble understanding.

"whether it is possible to fully integrate the experience of universal oneness into one’s conceptual landscapes"

I'm sure you are aware tht a big bunch of writings by the mystics are trying to do just that. Read them much?

Here's a book by steiner outlining the slow birthing of a clear concept of
"god-being-(re)born-in-us-as-a-higher-I"

through some of the renaissance mystics. (The same idea I commented about on your "mystical hypothesis" post.

http://www.globalgreyebooks.com/Pages/mystics-of-the-renaissance.html

"Thus, LSD-like states allow the global binding of otherwise incompatible schemas by softening the degree to which neighborhood constraints are enforced."

True, Once I was playing rythm guitar while a friend played classical, neither of us listening to each other in order to "play together". However, in the lsd state, it was remarkably easy to understand the "mutually unacknowledging" streams as meaningfully-related parts of a somewhat "soberly-unimaginable" whole.

" the grand pattern is somewhat different. It is more stable; one arrives at a more globally consistent state"

Sounds like Jung's goal of "Individuation".

"Total order of consciousness"

Levinas, in "totality and infinity" argues that totalizations are unlawful violence to the actual infinity of the other's presence as experienced in the fundamental experience of the "face to face"

"On the third day of taking Bienavi, people become aware of the phenomenology of transparency".

Again, since it ends in "-logy" phenomenology means a type of DISCOURSE. Maybe you mean "they experience the phenomenon of transparency" but since phenomenon means "appearing" you could just say "transparency appears" or "transparency begins to stand out", but maybe simpler words make you less excited.

There is research about people liking "soldier talk" (e.g. "to take evasive action" instead of "to flee") because it makes the world seem more complex and therefore more magical (in the demeaning sense of the word)

"Between you and your surroundings you now see, with clarity, a luminous spaciousness"

this reminds me of a little bit of TSK that i did get to read, the part about "great space".

(Time, Space and Knowledge by Tarthang Tulku)

"Every stimuli experienced is a delight; and yet, the light of love towards all sentients shines as in no other state."

The singular of stimuli is stimulus, btw.

So are you delighted at the suffering you perceive? I'm not saying this is absurd. Thomas Aquinas explains that the "bienaventurados" (the blessed) in heaven do rejoice at the existence of hell... However, one might ask what the incentive to reduce it is then...

"Bienavi-assisted Oneness Therapy"

I wish i could give you a deeper experience of the relatively crude "oneness therapy" practised by the rainbow family. Actually you could describe said family as a self selected association of unity therapy facilitators, and their gatherings as large scale facilitations which reap enormous synergy benefits. Field Data-point: I play the guitar like ten times better there.

There's gonna be a bunch of gatherings in a row in canada soon, maybe you go, they're defined as "ceremonial" so maybe there's gonna be a little too much ritual pompousness, but i think you can factor that out in your measurements. Look it up here: rainbowforum.net

My overall conclusion: Wonderful text. The imprecisions i pointed out are inevitable in a paper of such a scope. Thanks!

Is Silicon Valley selecting for moral idiocy?

Ok so there's a lot of people with high iqs in the bay area, in what sense are they intelligent? my contention is that they are moral imbeciles like Adolf Eichmann.

This guy in "Further Future" (a sot of "Burning Man for the rich):

“This is a high percentage of San Francisco entrepreneurs, and they tend to be winners. It’s a curated, self-selected group of adults who have jobs,” Schmidt said. “You can tell by the percentage of trailers.”

It's not self-selected, it is exclusive and cannibalistic, and these high iq aspergers from the bay area pull their yokes in castrated oxlikeness maybe because they're too autistic to get a gardening girlfriend/boyfriend that's happy with much less money and -especially- hype, or to break out of the work-withdrawal-comfort cycle for that matter.

“This is top-league networking and business folks are all here in the guise of having fun. It’s designed around the music, but it’s about the business,”

Exactly, the spirit of fun is hijacked by cutthroat social climbing, and these poor (moral) imbeciles are unlikely to experience laughing for real at a joke and not because the boss cracked it. Also, the bourgeois are always lame, because the real joke would be about them. The capacity to fake laughter selects in favor of Eichmann style "smart imbeciles" They would be pitiful if they were not despicable.

You might paint a clumsy picture of god money stomping the throat of Pan, but the Cthonic ones are way more fundamental, and one day Shiva might jus send his flying monkeys to your fancy "sacrifice"

If you live in the bay area just ignore that sentence, it's not really for your secular soul-contemptuous worldview.

“What happens post-capitalism? Even post-democracy? What about post-employment, when we have universal basic income?"

I guess "post-democracy" means when we no longer have the right to decide...

"..we have great reverence for Burning Man, but there’s always an element of arduousness. Here, we have spa treatments and green juice,” he said. “There’s already enough in life that’s tough.”

Finally the jewel:

“We’re so privileged to come to these spiritual places – Further Future, Tulum – but not everyone can,” the audience member says, asking Piorkowski how he should reconcile that.

“It’s all about balance. We are the ones meant to be the air, not the earth,” Piorkowski said. “So you have this group who can travel. The purpose can never be to enable everyone to travel because that would create imbalance.”

Translate to: We are meant to have "unabashed luxury" while the rest of you just live a tough life because we can't afford to lift you out of the rough.

Right. Gods and clods. (See the south park episode where one of the dads explains this) Some have to be poor so we can be rich.

In the meantime a bright asperger is finally getting around the key problem that will let one of these sorry excuses for a human to concentrate wealth even more, damning another 10-100 million people to "be earth" (read: dirt, for them to step on)

Also they starve while working in google...

http://www.alternet.org/labor/silicon-valley-tech-worker-fired-after-blogging-about-starving-while-working-billion-dollar

and there's a lot of homeless in sf...

And also this:
http://religiondispatches.org/the-moral-bankruptcy-of-silicon-valley-asceticism/

Briefly: this idiot thinks he's very smart because he does without ac. How does he do laundry? He just buys new clothes from china. Now that's really smart...

WTF?

Soft, White, Computer Magic

...they came to recognize this mental state of increased manifestative power, and developed a procedure involving facebook and the sims whereby they would create sims as similar (!) as possible to the people they knew, in some respects, and freer, happier and more alive in others. They then would watch them run and intensely focus on the sim for it's activity to "imprint" the energy fields of the real person at moments when, for example, someone not so creative in real life began panting a picture in the sim world.

A first stint at writing for Realitysandwich, which i haven't been able to complete but store here for people to read meanwhile.

Mexico is a strange land, no doubt. A number of factors concur into making it a land of secrecy, “not-by-the-book-ness” and things that have had to be kept from the inquiring eyes of the successive teams of dominator-culture-style land- and people-rapists its population and wildlife have had to endure ever since old 1521.

Because you see, they used to know a lot of magic ‘round these parts, –and I do mean a lot; once you start being able to tell, it’s pretty much everywhere.

So let’s go into a little bit of detail, shall we? And try and give ourselves a picture that is a bit more clear about a few things.

Ok so it’s the 1500’s and all the high initiates of magic this side of the blue ball are faced with the biter realization that their superior understanding of the subtle realms of being (read: mind) was still no match for the brute force of that oh so wonderful combination of stirrup and cannon. The bearded, smelly, and drunken people that had gotten off the floating hill (give you an idea how hard it was for native people to understand a ship) were plain destroying everything, so the magic had to be hidden, and hidden it was, in the farthest mountains where the spanish-speakers never came, along with amaranto (is that called amaranth in english?), the plant that the smellies had to forbid because it freed the Indians from the obligation to come down work as semi-slaves in the haciendas, and along with the politeness of the land, a way of treating each other so incredibly careful and loving (once you’ve done the mushroom you can tell) that the motherfucker (it’s what they are) mentality mistakes it, to this day, for some pathological shyness, sort of the way people who are not happy enough find happy music silly.

So everything had to be like double-accounting.

Everyone started growing accustomed to the following situation: No matter where you are, no matter whatcha doin’ YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO PRETEND IT’S SOMETHING ELSE.

This duplicity (schizophrenia?) of the collective psyche is especially easy to perceive in language. To this day nobody dares speak to strangers like they speak at home. Nobody wants to be found out as the son of brown-skinned people, even though they might be brown-skinned themselves.

Ok, then 400 years later, the Revolution hands power over to your typical adult-male gang (only here they’re not Caucasian, but still just as castrated and life-hating as your modern-day immigrant shooting “minutemen”, for example) and all the practice the collective psyche had developed at living Indian under the nose of the pseudo-european was diverted into robbing the people under their own nose. (think of some ghoulish inbreeding hillbilly tying his daughters to the plow, or think of the guy in Austria (Don’t you find the Europeans marvelously civilized?) that kept her daughter in a cellar for raping like 20 years, and you’ll get the picture).

So it was pretty much Orwell’s 1984 down here, from the 30’s on to the year 2000. Doublethik levels kept rising as the foam on top of a pulque barrel, except...

There came the sixties. Avandaro music fest, the Mexican Woodstock. Number of naked people: one (it’s really catholic out here). A few guys and girls actually did acid and mushrooms, but they did not coalesce into anything visible, maybe because they were too used to living in hiding and fear (-This is beautiful, honey, but they’ll never get it, so let’s not tell anyone), maybe because the mushroom itself cautioned them against surfacing too soon. In any case the forces of Promethea (if we may so call them) were slowly gaining ground on another flank.

In 1967, just in time for some of the participants in the 1968 student revolts to read it, Gabriel García Márquez’s (GGM)“One Hundred Years of Solitude”(OHYS) came out. It did not come out of nowhere, for sure, and it would be arguable to trace at least some of his interest in magic back to Jorge Luis Borges, maybe 30 or 40 years older than GGM. But the thing is, OHYS is not about magic, in the sense Borges’s stories are. It is about human relationships, but it ever so casually mentions things like Narciso Babilonia (Narcissus Babylon for those of you not fluent) being followed around everywhere by a cloud of butterflies (Promethea variety, perhaps? Hmmm…) and stuff tantamount to coming out on a family dinner and saying: c’mon granma, we all know magic has always existed, whyncha tell us all ‘bout the talking deer you meet with everyday?

So one conjecture that imposes itself on the mind is that the book caught on because there were literally thousands of middle class housewives picking up (with their albeit muffled goddess sensibility) everyday perceptions of the immaterial realm on the clairvoyance-inertia left over in the collective mind-continuum by the ancients, imagine if you will the crumbling moment of a guilty-secret based domination scheme, the floggers (or their current version) have everyone intimidated into submission, but then the slaves start gaining an understanding of their power, and in the end it’s just a matter of looking at each other an finding the courage to stand up against it. Every oppressed-into-housewivery moon-priestess read the book and thought: “Maybe I’m not insane like my (impotent, alcoholic) husband says, maybe magic’s true, and maybe I’m not the only one living it despite herself”.

Ok fast-forward 30 years, and it’s the sons and daughters of the ’68 protesters (the ones that grew up with mommies that did believe in magic, and were allowed to say so) that are closing down (public, tuition-free, university’s) campus for 11 months and doing lotsa ‘shrooms in it, and yours truly with them. Please bear in mind that it’s tuition free, because that’s what allows for the grandsons and granddaughters of the not-yet-spanish-speaking shamans to attend the most important college of the Spanish speaking world only 2 generations away form magic. (I mean 2 generations ago their grannies were still cooking’it up with spirit and just 2 generations later they’re in college, with granny still alive and stirring the brew, in some cases).

Now here, if my kind readers will bear with such a display of narcissism, I will recount some of the events in the 1999-2000 student strike in a tone more autobiographical than “big picture-esque” (if I may take such preposterous liberties with no-longer-shakespeare’s tongue).

What I expound in the following paragraph serves to illustrate a metaphysical conjecture about the nature of novelty (more or less as defined by whitehead-mckenna).

Before 1999 the maximum number of days any school facility had been occupied by students was (I don’t remember) around 40. So a month an a half into the strike we broke the record.

We were living in a situation that nobody thought could occur.

And yet there we were.

My contention is that

· to begin with, reality is woven by the sum of minds (duh!)

· When minds perceive an improbability (something ordinarily unthinkable, like college shut down 11 months) effectively taking place, they sort of “relax” their reality-creation mechanisms and allow themselves to create/manifest/discover things that are more novel than the ones they’d allow themselves if there weren’t an elephant levitating over the kiosk (or any other effectively obtaining improbability).

So, people did large amounts of psychedelics in that strike, maybe substantially more than ever before, and they also lost the faith in their parents (as everyone with slave parents must, eventually), pretty much at the same time.

NOTE TO DANIEL: it’s what I have so far, around 1300 words. I think it’ll grow to maybe 5000 words, from here I recount some anecdotes from the strike and then start describing the actual mindscape and the systemic relations I spoke of in the e-mail in another 1500 words and finally the mushroom eaters-party and interviews in the last 1500. I’ll be happy to get your feedback and can send you the next draft in a week.

Building an Artificial Progressive State

This post should probably be posted in spanish too, i guess i'll translate it later, so here goes:

What if we gathered 101 mexican hippies and went to live in a mexican town with 100 inhabitants?

Well, after about three years, we (the hippies) could all get new voting cards with our new addresses and just elect one of us as mayor.

(that was the short, comic-book version of it, so here goes the "a-little-closer-to-reality" version of the plan):

What is the state with the least population in mexico? Nayarit, inhabited by half a million people.

So what if we could come up with 500, or better yet, 5000 progressive, holistic, eco-spiritual liberals to go and live there as teachers in elementary schools and universities and other key jobs providing us access to the youth of the state? Of the 500,000 inhabitants, only 200,000 are actually old enough to vote. So 18 years from now, the other 300,000 (the ones we will -by that time- have educated in the mother-earth-loving ways of sustainability and community) will be voting too, so basically we could set ourselves the task of appointing a liberal, mexican-born governor for 2024-2030.

Once at that point, we can start remaking the local laws inasmuch as the mexican constitution allows us to.

People who come from other countries will probably not be able to vote, but there are many ways to contribute to the massive shift in values (from catholic-sponsored submission to self-organizing ecologically aware suficiency and wellness)which we intend to produce. I hasten to point out that i'm not proposing picking a fight with the catholic hierarchy, much less the secular powers-that-be, but rather a gentle integration of ever widening sectors of local society into community-building activities.

Here are some examples of specific strategies that can help gain the people's confidence, one soul at a time, in order to be able to draft with them a new social pact for the state:

-Getting teaching jobs.

(I guess i don't have to explain that one)

-Establishing autonomous community centers providing communitary daycare, basic healthcare and internet services.

(Here's where all those euros and dollars you blonde guys have been making in your industrialized countries fit in) Once we manage to get our man in the governor's office, we can legislate so that it'l be easier for foreigners who have helped our transition out of barbarity to become citizens.

This is a specially impotant strategy, for it garners us the attention of precisely the part of the population which, despite being the one that really keeps things going has been most debased in their collective integrity and self-image: the women.

If a young rural woman in her mid twenties finds she can leave her beating husband while leaning on the support of the local autonomous community center for daycare and work (at the local organic co-op) she will be grateful. Perhaps enough to even invite her sisters and cousins to either do the same or at least inform their catholic-raised husbands that they have a choice not to take the blows silently anymore.

-Establishing the appropriate autonomous mechanisms (perhaps i shold say organisms) to help peasants and farmers "go organic" and using our little computers and college diplomas to set up a distribution network of organic food for fancy citypeople who'll pay for it rather well worldwide.

-Establishing a worldwide support net that goes to the rich-but-kinda-progressive fellows elsewhere and puts out a hand for donations to speed everything up.

Now some of the things we could accomplish:

-Ban styrofoam (etc.)
-Tax ostentatious luxury
-Hyper-tax beef and pork
-Hyper-tax alcohol and tobacco
-Build lots of libraries
-Teach meditation in public schools
-Engage the huichol indians in a state-wide spiritual education program (in the long run, growing lots of greenhouse peyote grafted on faster-growing opuntiae for the mystical experiences ot those that choose to so have them)
-Address the age old problem of intitutionalized sexual repression of the young
-Build more schools
-Harness the wealth of the tourism industry on the coast to fuel social change
-Give away prescription cocaine and/or heroin to addicts to avoid their spread im the local community
-De-ciminalize marijuana
-Everything else that uptight people in governments have not allowed people to do despite it being a good idea.

-Et cetera.

I welcome everyone's comments, additions or criticisms
